‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: See Jim Carrey, Iggy Azalea have a little fun
This weekend, “Saturday Night Live” is going to get a little bit fancy, and also a little bit silly, with the show that they have coming on the air. You have a host in Jim Carrey who is well-suited to be on this show, and also a musical guest in Iggy Azalea who is actually probably more current than he is.
For Carrey, being on this show is twofold. It is a chance first and foremost to remind everyone of why he is a comedy legend in the first place, and we’d be remiss to hide from the fact that “Dumb and Dumber To” is coming into theaters. (Yep, spelled that way on purpose, internet.) This is a tremendous opportunity for him, which is why we would not be that shocked if we saw Jeff Daniels make an appearance at some point during the night. Plus, it’s also a way for him to promote the upcoming final season of “The Newsroom.”
As for Iggy, what we’re most interested in seeing is if she decides to make fun of herself in a capacity that is not just in the promo below. Typically, big-name musical guests do like to cameo in a sketch throughout the night. Ariana Grande did it in the premiere, and we’ve seen Katy Perry do it before she ended up becoming a host a little later. It’s a chance to show a different side, and Azalea could benefit from it. Also, we wonder how she will do many of her hit songs given that a lot of them are collaborations.
Overall, we just expect good comedy. NBC has had some time to prepare for this one, and hopefully that also means a new introduction from Darrell Hammond that doesn’t feel like he is relaxing on the beach.
