NBC’s ‘Constantine’ episode 2 preview: Angélica Celaya debuts as Zed
Tonight, “Constantine” made its grand debut over on NBC, and it hopefully set the stage for what is going to be a great adaptation of the DC Comics show. The pilot was solid, but like so many other shows, you cannot really just the story on one episode alone … especially this one.
After all, this is a very different sort of second episode in “The Darkness Beneath” than what we’ve seen with other new series, largely because of a big casting change. Lucy Griffiths is out, and Angélica Celaya is in as Zed, who has a history within the comics and will likely be a little more of a challenge for Constantine to deal with. There may not be a whole lot of specific details available about the story just yet, but you can check out a little of what we know in the attached synopsis:
“Deep in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania, John (Matt Ryan) is a small mining community’s only defense against an ancient Welsh spirit. In the course of protecting these isolated innocents, John finds a vital new ally in a mysterious young woman named Zed (Angélica Celaya).”
Basically, the episode in theory sounds decent, but we’re going to be patient through what are probably going to be growing pains. It took “Arrow” half a season before it started to truly become good. Meanwhile, for “Agents of SHIELD” it took almost three-quarters. With adaptations, it can sometimes take a while to really find your own identity, and then be able to confidently run with it.
