‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5, episode 7 preview: Nucky’s war with Luciano

The hard part of previewing Sunday night’s new episode of “Boardwalk Empire” is mostly facing reality, and by that, we mean the fact that there are only two installments left before we’re at the end of the road.

How did we make it here so quickly? It’s a very good question, and we think that part of it traces back to how the show took its time getting to this point. The first five episodes contained quite a bit of plodding, and also all of those Nucky flashback scenes that left many feeling more than a little bit divided.

However, this past episode changed everything, with the violence, the sacrifices, and the deaths of two important and beloved characters in Van Alden and Chalky. Now, we’re in a position where almost anything can happen. There is war between Nucky and Luciano, and while it seems inevitable that Steve Buscemi makes it to the finale, who knows what is going to be happening to him once that episode finally arrives?

If we had to write down a character we were the most worried about at this particular moment, it would be Gillian. For whatever reason, we have spent almost the entirety of this season being terrified for her for one reason or another. Maybe this will be her time.
