‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 5, episode 4 review: Did Danny get his brother back?
Danny’s brother Matt is in a lot of trouble on “Hawaii Five-0”. Marco’s threatening to kill Matt if Danny doesn’t find the 18 million that he has hidden somewhere and after realizing that a postcard Matt sent Danny was a treasure map, Danny now has a big bag of cash on hand to trade with – but will he actually get Matt back once the exchange is made?
After finding the cash, Danny calls Steve over to look at his giant pile of cash and while it looks impressive, Danny is 5.5 million dollars short (seems Matt dipped into the 18 million to help himself disappear). Now he only has a few days to come up with the rest of the money or Marco is going to kill Matt.
Danny starts going to some unsavory places asking some bad men for favors to get the remaining money, but he ends up getting turned down (seems criminals don’t want to help cops… shocker!). Luckily Steve told Chin about the money situation and has come up with an idea.
Chin tries to call in a favor through the man who killed his father (Gabriel), but he won’t budge, so he suggests to Danny to negotiate giving half of the money to Marco up front and the other half when he gets Matt, but Danny knows that once he gets Matt back and Marco realizes he’s short 5.5 million that he may come back and take Grace. Later Gabriel calls Chin back and changes his mind (seems that people in jail don’t like criminals that are related to cops) and offers to pay Chin the 5.5 million dollars if he can move him from general population and get him some better protection in jail.
With all of the money in place, Danny and Steve meets up with Marco to made the trade – money for Matt’s life. They give Marco the money, but and they get Matt back, just not in the way they thought. Matt is dead and stuffed into a barrel, leaving Danny full of rage. He kills Marco’s whole team and then shoots Marco in the face.
We have loved this story of Danny, Marco, Matt and the missing money – it has been such a cool mystery and we are always happy any time there’s a big arc for Danny. Episode grade: B+
