‘Ink Master: Rivals’ season 5, episode 8 preview: Scrimshaw and walrus bone

We have seen a few episodes of “Ink Master” this season where they have skipped right over the flash challenge and the artists were thrown into a crazy hard elimination tattoo, but things are back to normal next week and we will be seeing another new flash challenge.

The focus of this flash challenge is “detail” and the artists will be doing “Scrimshaw”: Creating a design using a needle on bone and then adding ink to bring the image to life. When they find out the bone they are going to be doing their designs on is a walruses privates, it’s cute to watch the bad ass tattooers all giggling (you can check out a preview over at Spike TV).

It looks like many of the artists will be over thinking this challenge and going a bit too big… and for a challenge that is only 3 hours we would think that simple is the way to go so that they can pack in as much detail as possible. We will see some of the heavy hitters like Joshua struggle, while others you might not expect to do well at the top. Everyone will be taking a different approach to this challenge, but expect to see a lot of nautical themed designs.
