‘True Detective’ season 2: Elisabeth Moss still surprised by ‘rumors’

HBO logoSometimes, you can apparently become the target of so many rumors, that almost becomes the story more than what it was originally based on. If you remember months ago, Elisabeth Moss was supposedly in contention for “True Detective” season 2. Then, when so many other actresses were announced as being up for a role, it eventually became about how she was rumored to still be around.

The fully thing about all of this, though, is that Moss never really had that much communication with HBO or the show’s producers in the first place. She said long ago that she hadn’t talked with anyone about it, and speaking to BuzzFeed while promoting her new movie “Listen Up Philip,” it appears as though little has changed:

“Literally, someone turned around to me in a car and got an email and was like, ‘Are you on True Detective?’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ I was like, ‘No. I don’t think so.’ And I had to go ask my team, ‘What’s happening with this? Is this, like, a thing?’ It’s totally just a rumor. Actors are talked about when you’re casting something. But everybody knew far more about this than I ever did. I had to go ask! Like, I read the article and had to go ask my team. So it’s 100% a rumor.”

Based on the fact that she is going to be in a stage production early next year, we feel like it is ultimately very unlikely now that the “Mad Men” star will be a part of the new season. Would we have loved to see her? Sure, but even if she was in contention, we would’ve moved on, as well, if we saw that they kept auditioning so many other people for the part.

Do you think that Moss not being on “True Detective” is a missed opportunity for HBO? Share what you think right now with a comment.
