CBS’ ‘CSI’ season 15 premiere review: Mark-Paul Gosselaar steals the show

“CSI” is 15 seasons in now and although you might think that could mean the show is losing it’s edge this many years in, it really hasn’t and started season 15 with a bang.

The premiere threw us into the fire right away with a pretty intense situation involving Russell and mysterious voice threatening to do bad things, and Julie staring in the face of a bomb ready to end her life.

The case is based on a killer that Julie and Russell have dealt with before: Jared Briscoe, who targeted Russell (and his daughter) in the past, but the thing is that Jared is on death row for his crimes… so is this a copy cat or does Jared have someone else working for him to get to Russell?

Julie is hooking up with Daniel Shaw, but learns that he’s not in Las Vegas solely to see her. He’s now a private investigator looking for information on his partner Carrie to see what happened to her after she came to Las Vegas to find a missing girl named Emily – the same girl that was murdered in the case Julie and Russell are working on.

They learn that Jared has a twin and the department starts to think that they have been working together this whole time. Julie gets in her car to check out a lead and is locked in her car with a bomb, the killer’s way of getting Russell’s attention and to let him know that he is still out there.

The killer’s hope is that this incident will prove that Russell wrongly put Jared in jail without proper evidence and that it was all based on over what happened with Russell’s daughter – no any proof and discrediting Russell. Will he find the real killer (or proof he needs) before Jared’s life is ended on death row?

This was a great start to the season and a nice surprise to see Zack Morris (Mark Paul Gosselaar) back in action! He never gets the credit he deserves, but this kid has always had some pretty serious acting chops.  Episode grade: B
