‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16 premiere review: Did Benson save Baby Noah?

Law & Order: SVU logo“Law & Order: SVU” had hyped up this #SaveBabyBenson storyline all summer long, and what was interesting to us in watching the premiere was that this was actually not always the focus of the story.

Instead, what we had during this hour-long premiere was a variety of different stories focusing on specific characters, and where they are now since the last time we saw them. To us, seeing what Amaro was willing to do in order to help Benson further, even while a uniform cop, was pretty darn inspiring.

The moments with Benson and her new son were still touching, even when they were not a focal point. Benson went far out of her way in order to ensure that the child had its justice, even though she didn’t really need to put so much into it herself. We feel like the whole moral of this story was really cleansing yourself of the past, and finding a way to move forward. She may have received a child out of this in “Spring Awakening,” but it was never about that as it was making sure that all justice was served, and she could move forward with this child.

This was truly one of the great “SVU” premieres, and one we will remember for quite a long time. Hopefully, the show will continue to go down the road of compelling, character-based stories the rest of the season. We’re also really happy that Benson at least seems to have some sort of victory for now. Grade: A-.
