TNT’s ‘Dallas’ season 4: What are the renewal chances?

Tonight, “Dallas” will end its run on TNT after a crazy year full of twists, turns, and schedule shifts that you may not have seen coming. Ultimately, it is fair to say that the show really didn’t get the best shake this year by the network. It’s ending tonight, after all, against a billion other things on the air. How can it expect to draw big numbers given the competition?

Numbers really are the biggest thing holding the show back from getting a fourth season. The ratings were not exactly spectacular for season 3, and marked another big drop from when J.R. Ewing was still alive on the series. If the show took forever to get renewed last year, it will take even longer for the network to come up with a decision (if there a good one to make).

The other thing we would worry about if we were a “Dallas” fan is that TNT had itself a very good summer this year. Just look across the board: “Murder in the First” and “The Last Ship” were renewed, their flagship shows are still going strong, and while “Legends” has not had a firm fate determined just yet, we’d give it the edge as a new series right now. “Dallas” may be a hot property, but it may take a miracle this time.

Then again, why not have hope? Crazier things have happened, and if you love the show, you have to campaign! If you expect the worst, maybe you can find a way to turn things around and get the best.

What do you think: Should “Dallas” be renewed for a fourth season? Let us know what you think right now with a comment.
