‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 5 preview: Can The Doctor, Clara rob a bank?
The biggest thing we are worried about for this coming episode of “Doctor Who” is really at this point rather simple: Expectations. We feel for “Time Heist” given that it is coming after “Listen,” which may just be one of the best episodes of the Steven Moffat era. It simplified things, focused on the characters, and gave us a very emotional take on whether or not there is anything worth being afraid of in this universe.
With “Time Heist,” the tone appears to be very much shifting. This story appears to be less geared around emotions, fears, or insecurities. Instead, we’re shifting towards a mission where The Doctor and Clara are given a very difficult task: Trying to initiate a bank robbery for the sake of spiral. We imagine that this will not be easy for them to accomplish, but this is The Doctor! We’ve learned quite a bit about his capabilities already.
What should make this episode interesting for many out there are the various races, callbacks, and characters that are featured in here. While “Listen” was more focused in on a select few, this story will go broad and trace back to the “Doctor Who” universe in a very different way.
The only sad news we have right now is that “Listen” did not score 5 million viewers in Britain. The ratings are still decent, but we hope that more and more people flock to check out that episode when they get an opportunity to.
