TV Quick Hits: ‘Murder in the First’ renewed; Billy Eichner, Mindy Kalling, and fun with David Letterman
TNT renews “Murder in the First” – Big news for fans of this particular summer mystery. Despite some uncertainty on the executive lever right now, the network decided to go ahead and give Taye Diggs and company another season. (This news was first reported by Deadline.)
We’re hardly surprised by this, given that TNT for the most part had itself one heck of a summer, and there were almost zero bumps in the road anywhere for them. This show and “The Last Ship” were both hits. The only new series that really has an uncertain future right now is “Legends,” which we hope does return thanks mostly to the greatness of Sean Bean.
David Letterman fun – In what seems to be an almost-daily segment now of how much we are going to miss Dave after this year, we’ve got a pair of new videos below worth checking out.
The first features “Billy on the Street” star Billy Eichner, who decides at first to play one of his trademark games with the host: Celebrity baby name, or Kentucky Derby-winning horse? Some of the answers here were absurd, but the real charm here was listening to Billy scream at Dave. Letterman seemed to love just about every minute of this. He even found a way to convince Billy to play another game of “Dead or Boring,” which was pretty predictable but also great.
Finally, we also have a video below featuring Mindy Kaling, where she jokes about why her phones weren’t stolen during the massive hacking scandal. She even decides to give out her phone password on the air … seemingly.
