‘Mystery Girls’ with Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth canceled after one season
Well, can you really be too surprised by this news? ABC Family has no problem canceling shows that do now pull in good numbers. “Mystery Girls” struggled from the get-go in the ratings, and to go along with that, the critical reception to the series was not great.
Therefore, the news regarding the cancellation of Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth’s series was no surprise today. At first glance, this seemed like a good idea to get this show on the air; the premise was fun, and how could you resist the idea of a “Beverly Hills 90210” reunion? That show was such a huge success that even if a fraction of the viewers tuned out for this, everyone would be extremely happy all around.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work like that. The show had a rough timeslot in the summer, and we don’t really consider this to be where most longtime fans of the old show spend their time, either.
Who knows? Maybe one of them will land another series in the future, but more than anything else right now, we just hope that Spelling does something that is not another reality show about her personal life. That may be up there with “The Leftovers” when it comes to being one of the most depressing things that we have ever witnessed.
The fate is still out on some other shows on ABC Family, including “Chasing Life” and “Young & Hungry.” We feel a little more hopeful about the latter right now than the former.

I like Young and Hungry. The cast is great and it was left on a cliffhanger. Chasing Life… no thanks. Also, more television about Tori’s personal life. I will pass. I think the shows about Tori’s personal life hurt Mystery Girls.
