‘The Flash’ spoilers: Why Barry Allen, Felicity Smoak will be addressed quickly

“The Flash” may have a few crossover episodes here and there with “Arrow,” but at the same time, it is its own independent show. It would be very hard for Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to therefore have a permanent relationship with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), since trying to schedule all of the movement back and forth could be a production disaster.

With that being said, it is not at all like the show plans on ignoring the seeds that were planted in “The Scientist” and “Three Ghosts” last season. Speaking (per Zap2It) at the PaleyFest fall preview event today, executive producer Greg Berlanti made it clear just how important it was for the show to get Felicity over to Central City soon, that way they can progress forward with Barry’s story in every way that they have planned:

“Felicity is going to appear in Episode 4 of ‘Flash.’ It was really important to us to address that right away because we saw the impact that Grant had [in Season 1 of ‘Arrow’].”

Romantically, Barry will have a love triangle of sorts evolve over time here, mostly because of the presence of Iris West in this world. This will be the sort of woman who has known Barry for a long time, and therefore these feelings are a little bit more of a slow burn. This could eventually free up Felicity to either be with Oliver Queen (which is what most fans of “Arrow” want) or Ray Palmer, the new addition to the show played by Brandon Routh.
