‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5, episode 1 preview: Loneliness becomes you

What happens to you when you think that you have everything in the world, only to realize that this “everything” is hollow? This is at least one theme that you can see explored throughout the fifth “Boardwalk Empire” season.

As you have probably heard many times already at this point, one of the tools that Terence Winter and company are going to rely on heavily for the final season is the flashback to tell some of their story. With the show jumping forward so many years, they want to also give you a better sense of Nucky Thompson’s childhood just so you can better understand his future at the same time.

What you may not expect to see from this story, though, comes in the way of emotional connections. According to a new report coming in now from TV Guide, one of the biggest things that you should expect to get out of these Atlantic City flashbacks is why Nucky feels as lonely as he does. He is a man who has experienced great success, but sometimes, this can also lead to burning plenty of bridges.
