‘Chicago Fire’ season 3 spoilers: What lies ahead for Casey, Gabby?

We know already that the third season of “Chicago Fire” is going to start off with sadness, as one character will die in the midst of the explosion and the wreckage from the finale.

But what else can you expect when the show returns on September 23? One significant thing is a time jump? Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Matt Olmstead makes it clear that there will be a jump of around a month and a half from the time of the accident to what happens moving forward this season.

So could this impact one of the show’s key relationships? Based on what Olmstead says, it will change the way that Casey and Gabby look at quite possibly themselves, their engagement, and the rest of the world:

“When you experience loss, you take inventory of your own life … Sometimes, you might accelerate the process of getting married or the thing that you put off your whole life that you want to do, because it’s just a very sharp reminder that nothing’s guaranteed.”

Given what we saw in the finale, the show does have wedding fever! The crazy thing, though, is continuing to see these happy moments juxtaposed against something so sad as death. We’re interested in seeing how the show chooses to handle this, and also how all of the characters react to what are some very major changes in their lives. This is a different period of time in the show; characters are growing up now, and there are many changes that will come as a result of that.
