MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 4 spoilers: What does Jenna have to take responsibility for?

When “Awkward” season 4 picks up again on MTV come Tuesday, September 23, there are quite a few orders of business that will need to be attended to … and of course, many of them involve Jenna Hamilton.

One of the major ones right now is simply whether or not she is going to be able to rebuild a friendship or a relationship with Matty, and how she needs to get over playing the blame game before she does anything else. Why? As executive producers Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler tell TVLine, “part of her wants to blame Matty and Eva for her split with Luke, but the other part of her knows she needs to take responsibility for the choices she made.” Many of those choice involve herself injecting her emotions and feelings into the Matty / Eva drama, while pushing her own college boyfriend away in the process.

What is also noteworthy about this report is that it gives us further clarification on how far the story this season is going to go. Namely, we will make it to at least the Valentine’s Day dance. It does not make any mention about graduation just yet, which means that the show may be saving something still for a fifth season. If the show is renewed, could that be the last? We wonder, given how it only seems like the story can go on for so long here. Characters eventually mature, and many of the struggles of Jenna and company will be water under the bridge. Plus, we’re assuming that many characters will scatter post-graduation. After all, much of it is a part of life.
