‘Longmire’ season 4: How long does studio have to make renewal happen?
Now that we know the somewhat-shocking news that “Longmire” on A&E is no more, where do we go from here?
What we at least want to do within the span of this article is touch on something that we know to be a burning question for many fans out there: How long does the studio Warner Horizon have to find the show a new home? Well, this is something that they are going to have to work pretty quickly on, unless they want to jump through some serious hoops a little later down the road.
By the end of September, the contracts for many of the cast members on the show will start to expire, which frees them up to go and take other jobs. This is why A&E did not do the studio any favors by waiting as long as they did to officially cancel the show; it makes there a little less time to find a new suitor, and with Monday being Labor Day, that limits the time even more. No major network executive is going to take that call on a holiday weekend.
Is it possible that the entire cast could still get back together down the road, even if the show is not renewed within the next month or so? Sure, but it’s a heck of a lot more difficult since you have to round everyone up, get new deals in place, and figure out what happens from there.
We will close once again with this, for all of those out there campaigning to save the show: It’s better now to look towards other networks (AMC, WGN America) or streaming services (Netflix, Yahoo Stream) for a home than trying to press A&E to bring it back. They knew when they canceled the show that fans were going to be furious; this is what happened with “The Glades.” We wrote a piece recently detailing the pros and cons of any possible suitors out there.
Stay tuned, since we will definitely have more news as soon as it becomes available. Also, you can sign up today to secure some other updates on everything we cover at CarterMatt via our newsletter.
