TV Quick Hits: ‘New Girl’ season 4 scoop; ‘Mindy Project’ lands ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ creator, ‘Fargo’ star
Tons of “Mindy Project” news now! – This edition of TV Quick Hits is all about Fox comedies, and we have to start here with what is one of two big headlines for the show: They’ve got Allison Tolman!
According to TV Guide, the breakout star of “Fargo” will be joining the comedy for two episodes in the role of romance novelist Abby Berman. She is set to go on a not-so-great blind date with Peter, which is probably bad news for him and very good news for us as a viewer of the show. Don’t you always love it when there is chaos?
Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that “Grey’s Anatomy” / “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes will be making her TV acting debut on the show … playing herself. Mindy Kaling is a big Shonda fan, and obviously, the feeling is mutual since Rhimes went ahead with the gig despite being by her own admission that she can “neither act nor appear on camera” very well.
Official “New Girl” scoop – We say “official” mostly because we now have the first details from Fox on “The Last Wedding,” the first episode airing on Tuesday, September 16. (The show’s getting a jump on most of the rival series on network TV.)
The synopsis below should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect, including that Nick and Jess are not spending a whole lot of time pining for each other:
“At the last wedding of the summer, the gang makes a pact: Each of them will get lucky by night’s end. Jess sets her sights on the best man (guest star Reid Scott), who also has caught the eye of a beautiful scientist (guest star Biel). Meanwhile, Schmidt and Nick get an indecent proposal; Winston recovers from his police academy training; and Coach panics when he realizes he already has hooked up with every woman at the party.”
