‘Royal Pains’ season 6, episode 12 review: Hank goes his own way

Tuesday’s episode of “Royal Pains” was entitled “A Bigger Boat,” and we’re still trying to figure out just whether or not we actually like it. There were elements of the story that were beyond enjoyable, including seeing Evan and Paige try to be some sort of terrible spies in an effort to stop Oz.

However, there were also some annoyances. The entire B-story with Jeremiah and Divya was very predictable, as we saw the two learn something about friendship while helping a guy whose condition was obviously affected by him working with glue on his model ships. Also, there was also what felt like a lengthy AutoTrader commercial in the middle of the show that almost made us wonder whether or not Little Orphan Annie was about to send us another secret code to drink our Ovaltine. (Ironic reference, given that this is what Jeremiah requested from Boris in here, as well.)

The one thing that we’ll say in defense of some of this show’s awkward advertisements (this is not the first one) and cameo appearances is that it helps the show stay on the air. If having AutoTrader gives us a season 7, we won’t complain. Still no word on if that is happening.

Finding out Cinco’s sister was Oz was a somewhat worthy reveal, given that it did slip our mind that the person ruining the Hamptons elite could be coming from within the wealthy world. The other big reveal was merely Hank deciding to not accept the deal to be a board member at Hamptons Heritage after Boris decided to purchase the hospital. Why not? Does Hank not want to be a part of working for the Man anymore? We feel like he enjoys his life exactly as it is, and is stubborn to change it.

With the finale next week, the biggest struggle for Hank will merely be him figuring out whether or not his relationship can stay on track. Charlotte has his vision, but is now starting to crumble thanks to the fact that she no longer feels so safe in the world. She can see the danger, and previously the thrills in her life never felt like they do now. Grade: B-.
