‘Criminal Minds’ season 10 spoilers: Will Bellamy Young ever return?
Sometimes, TV shows have to deal with the fact that there are actors who move on to do bigger things, and they have to cry to accommodate as best they can on their own personal end. This is the situation that we have now for “Criminal Minds” and Bellamy Young, who has obviously gone on to be a major success over on “Scandal.”
So will we ever see Hotch’s recent girlfriend Beth Clemmons surface on the show again? It seems more and more unlikely with each passing day, and this is amplified further by the fact that showrunner Erica Messer plans to address the personal life of Thomas Gibson’s character off-camera when the show returns. Just take a look at what she had to say on the subject to Entertainment Weekly:
“We’re going to have them broken up … The audience will learn that in the first half of the season. The goal will be to see if he can get out there and meet someone new.”
We really cannot imagine that Hotch is going to have an easy time out in the dating world, if for no other reason than that this guy has all sorts of crazy baggage. His ex-wife was killed, he has a very demanding job, and there are also all sorts of other issues he deals with on a daily basis. With that being said, it could be entertaining to watch this guy put on the charm at a bar somewhere.

I would love to see more of the characters’ personal lives on the show, especially Hotch. Thomas Gibson is an amazing actor, and he doesn’t have the opportunity to display the wide range of emotions he’s so good at since his character is portrayed as stern and stoic. It would be wonderful for him to find someone who would support him 100%, perhaps someone whose job is also demanding so they understand some of what he goes through. I know Criminal Minds is about how the BAU works to catch criminals, and it has taught us so much about how to better protect ourselves in this crazy world we live in now, and I thank them for that. But after 10 years, would it be too much to ask for a few shows each season to spotlight the personal lives of the characters? Even if it’s only them coming together as the “family” they are to unwind after a case. The cooking scene at Rossi’s house, the karioke scene, JJ’s wedding, Rossi’s house after Strauss’s funeral: all of these were beautiful glimpses of the characters in a more peaceful setting where they could relax their guard, if only for a short time. Most shows (especially dramas) do not portray the main characters as having positive, succesful relationships, and maybe that’s because in real life, so many people don’t have them. But with all the horrific subjects the BAU has to deal with on a daily basis, it would be a carthasis for the viewers as well as the characters to end some of the episodes with a positive scene. That said, I love this show, and hope it continues for many years to come.

I would rather not see Hotch with a GF as he has enough on his plate as it it with his job, and trying to create a good environment at home for his son. I wouldn’t mind him dating as he needs to put himself out there. But when he does meet someone, it should be someone who won’t be forced down our throats like Beth was. There was no chemistry there. It was like we were being told ‘Here’s Hotch’s girlfriend and deal with it.’ There was no time to get to know her and see the relationship slowly develop. Also, Hotch needs time to heal from this latest breakup and help Jack deal with it. He doesn’t need to jump right into the dating pool.
