Did ‘The Fosters’ season 2 finale help its season 3 chances?

The Fosters -While “The Fosters” already has ensured itself a handful of episodes that will most-likely air in the winter, there is still a question out there related to something else: Whether or not the ABC Family show is going to get itself a third season.

Well, for the time being, they have to at least feel decent about their chances. The ratings outpaced “Switched at Birth” for the final weeks of the season, and given that this show received a fourth-season renewal, this has to be seen as a pretty good sign here. It also increased its rating up to almost 1.5 million viewers and a 0.6 for its summer finale. While it of course lags behind the network’s biggest hit in “Pretty Little Liars,” it is comparable to new show “Chasing Life,” which has the benefit of airing after the likes of Hanna and company.

In the end, you may not see a firm decision made on the future of “The Fosters” until you see some of the early winter ratings come in, even if they may mean a short turnaround for them to prepare some new episodes again for the summer. After all, there have not been many times where the network has carried the same four Monday – Tuesday shows from one year to the next. Just look at “Twisted,” “Bunheads,” or some of the other casualties that have happened over the years.

What do you want to see on the second half of “The Fosters” this season, and are you still optimistic for the show’s future? Share your thoughts now with a comment, and head over here to get our full take on the midseason finale.
