‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ votes contestants off Twitter … at least in-season

Survivor -If nothing else, you can certainly say that Jeff Probst and “Survivor” listen to the concerns of fans, and thanks to that, a temporary experiment with social media has now been shut down.

In a post on Twitter, Probst reveals that they have “killed” off the idea of having the show’s contestants posting messages with fans while the show is still on the air starting with “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” and moving forward. Are some people probably going to be bummed about this? Sure, if for no other reason than the fact that they love to follow along with their favorites. However, some of the following negatives outweigh the positives:

  • You can easily figure out who got along with who on the show thanks to their tweets, or even some of the people that they follow.
  • There’s always a chance that someone could accidentally spoil something.
  • They tend to get into fights with a lot of former Survivors, and that mostly turned out bad during “Cagayan.”
  • Also, people who are frequent tweeters and scoop-sharers are often the ones with nothing to lose. (As in, they were voted out early.) “Cagayan” was a rare exception to this for the most part, with Kass, Spencer, and Tony tweeting frequently.

This is actually something we wish other shows would follow suit with. We know that reality TV stars love getting their follower counts high, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of jeopardizing the integrity of the show, and so much of “Survivor’s” fun comes with not really knowing anything that is going to happen next.

What do you think: Is cutting off Twitter from contestants during the season a good idea, even if some of the Twitter feuds can be entertaining in-season? Share below, and hopefully, we’ll have some cast news to share soon.
