‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4, episode 3 reaction: Anson Mount, Robin McLeavy go through story
AMC has become very good on giving you behind-the-scenes insight for “Hell on Wheels,” and they are doing so again with the video below.
In this, you can see the likes of Anson Mount (Cullen), Robin McLeavy (Eva), Mackenzie Porter (Naomi), and many others discussing what was almost a repilot of sorts of Cullen’s journey. He is back in Cheyenne after his imprisonment in Fort Smith, but this is not the same place that he remembers. Cullen has to adapt to no longer being in charge of the railroad, and most importantly, the presence of John Campbell. Mount says that his character has a great understanding of this sort of man from his life experience, but that does not necessarily mean that he is firmly equipped to take him on. Campbell has cronies who are willing to do whatever he says … including beating the living snot out of Cullen. John is a “Governor,” but he is also unfortunately a sociopath. Not the sort of man you want to be around.
As for McLeavy, she discusses one of the most difficult moments in the entire hour as she details Eva’s recurring nightmares all about Elam’s attack, and her in turn being the bear, the cause of his destruction. Unfortunately for this character, it does not feel like hope or salvation is coming for her anytime soon. She’s suffering, and resorted to even cheating at cards as a way of getting by. Hopefully there is a turnaround for the character eventually, but for the time being it definitely feels like there is a struggle ahead.
