‘Arrested Development’ season 5 will happen … eventually

The fact that “Arrested Development” will be back on Netflix at some point in the future really has to be one of the worst-kept secrets of all time. The show is beloved by all, and it received plenty of attention during awards season.

Unfortunately, one issue here still remains in finding the actual time for all parties involved to be back for more Bluth family adventures. While Will Arnett told Jimmy Fallon on Thursday that a fifth season is something that everyone wants to do, there’s no timetable … at least just yet.

The funny thing about the idea of more of the show right now is that it feels like Arnett may be one of the reasons why doing another season is so difficult in the first place. After all, he’s a very busy guy! He is the star of “The Millers” on CBS, and in addition to that, he also has a slate of other projects. You can say the same thing about Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, and so many others that are affiliated.

Luckily, one of the joys about working with Netflix is that this is really a “whenever you want to come on, you can” sort of arrangement. There is no set time that they have to film, and nor do they have to come back at all. What makes this whole relationship strange from a TV journalist perspective is that unless the streaming service cancels a show, there is no way to know whether or not they are getting good ratings. Netflix doesn’t release any data to the public and isn’t regulated like the rest of TV is.
