‘Longmire’ season 4: Who else is confident about renewal hopes?
We’ve been saying for a little while now that there will most-likely not be any sort of confirmation on a “Longmire” season 4 immediately, and the fact that we are almost a week past the finale now with no further updates is not a surprise.
If nothing else, know this: The original author behind some of the Walt Longmire stories doesn’t seem too concerned. According to a K2 Radio story from the region, Craig Johnson said “I don’t worry about it” when it comes to whether or not the show could come back for a fourth season. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he is certain the show is coming back, but he is aware that the show is one of the most-watched scripted series ever for A&E. The only sticking point we can imagine is whether or not the numbers in the 18-49 demographic are going to be good enough … and we’re hoping that they are.
The story’s an interesting read also because of the Buffalo Longmire Days festival, which traditionally draws a big crowd to the region. In the story, it is revealed that none of the cast members are paid to actually attend other than travel and accommodation, and they come mostly out of a love and desire to meet the fans.
In the end, we still feel like there will be at least one more season of the show on A&E, if for no other reason than to resolve the cliffhanger that we had at the end of this past finale. Beyond that, it’s all question marks. This is not a network with a reputation of keeping scripted shows around forever, but even if they gave it a chance to formally tie together a story, we’d be happy.

I hope another station picks up Longmire, It could run as long as Gunsmoke. It is the best show A&E had and they say the AGE ratings are too low!!! What about the rest of us who are either younger or older then they Prime Age Rating, don’t we count? Stupid decision A&E.

to me longmier is one of the best shows out there. the characters are well played and seem real enough.so much more than zombie hunters. the values that are portrayed by the show are certainly a pleasant change from some of the junk thats out there. longmier is a pleasant combination of a modern day cowboy in a beautiful setting. the storys are mostly very interesting. but the best part of the show are the characters and the people who portray them.i have been hooked form the beginin and would be shocked and amazed if the show isnt renewed. not to mention very very sad

It is asinine at this point to place so much emphasis on the 18-49 demographic. According to the Wikipedia, ” Due to its strength in young demos, Friends was able to charge almost three times as much for a commercial as Murder, She Wrote”.
Okay. That is two decades ago, when Baby Boomers were the majority of the 18-49 demographic and, as a result, were the majority of the viewing audience. However, the Millennials are not sitting around watching television, nor are they the people most likely to be reached through advertising. It is the Boomers they need to be reaching out to. We’re the ones who have jobs and want to spend a quiet evening sitting home and watching television and buying stuff.
The Neilsen ratings system is just another dinosaur that has not realized that it needs to evolve or die, but still roars loudly enough that they put fear into their prey, the sponsors.

Longmire is a great show , It right up there with Gunsmoke …It’s hard to believe they would drop such a popular show ….but having said that , I still to this day can’t believe they dropped America’s Most Wanted… very popular and did a lot of good …

18-49 demographic. Bah! Advertisers should be aiming for an older group. THEY are the ones with grown children, and the most disposable income. Don’t see too mant 25 year olds driving a fully loaded Dodge Ram or having a need for Cialis….just saying.

This is the only television show I have watched this summer-while the background story arc was a bit dragged out, the show is well-scripted, well-cast and far superior to what passes for programming on network TV.
Maybe a “Longmire vs. Sharknado” episode would help the ratings…

I’ve tried to view this from outside the sphere of an ordinary viewer (and fan). Even before we watched the season finale, I pointed out to bride (who first turned me on to the series) that they seemed to be tying up all the loose ends and that the finale would look more like a series ender than merely a season ender.
For example, Walt’s protaganists have all been dispatched, with pretty much the only exception being Jacob Nighthorse, and it doesn’t take much imagination to see that Walt is plausibly on his way to resolve that.
Henry has beaten his rap, taken off the ankle bracelet, and seems to have recovered the money stolen from him. The only question left is does he show up to the party?
Vic’s issues, both with husband and former partner have either been resolved or are irretrivably on the road to resolution.
Branch seems to have put on his big boy pants and is on his way to resolving his Daddy issues.
Cady’s the big winner so what could they write for her for a new season?
The producers/network could easily, in my view, walk away from the series without the angst felt among the fans as has been described in other comments. I guess my point is, from a technical (that is production) standpoint, where would they go from here if renewed? Not so reassuring from the point of view of the fans, but I really don’t see any motivation to continue.
Every series has a life–some longer than others–but you can always tell when they’re running out of ideas. Not for nothing is the “jumping the shark” metaphor a reliable indicator of impending demise. I think if they came back in 4.1 with Walt capping Jacob, there wouldn’t be any argument. Keep that prospect in mind as you speculate.

Who isn’t? There’s no way it will go off like the ‘The Glades’ did in such an unfortunate manner, or lets hope not anyway. Great show, would hate to see it go too soon!

“In the end, we still feel like there will be at least one more season of the show on A&E, if for no other reason than to resolve the cliffhanger that we had at the end of this past finale.”
Tell that to viewers of “The Glades.” That A&E show was cancelled after a season ender with the main character bleeding on the floor after having been shot. No resolution to that cliffhanger came, or will likely ever come.

It would be a shame to see this program get dumped. With so much junk on tv now these stories are well written and the characters are interesting. Hope to see this renewed.
