‘Bachelor in Paradise’ spoilers: Marquel Martin on experience, ‘Bachelorette’ comparisons

Tomorrow night marks the big premiere of “Bachelor in Paradise,” which for us really just means another chance to get to see Marquel Martin on the screen again. He is by far one of the most-popular contestants from Andi Dorfman’s season of “The Bachelorette,” and this is without him even getting a hometown date or even lasting to an episode before that.

So what was it like for him being a part of this super-unique experience? It had to be strange, given that this is a new show and nobody has even seen it before. Marquel spoke at least briefly on the subject to “Entertainment Tonight,” and suggested that while it may not be as rough as trying to win over the heart of just one woman a la Andi Dorfman, there were problems with jumbling so many different personalities up against each other:

“When you kind of even out the ratio in terms of girl to guys, you get, you know, a lot of personalities, and a lot of different ones romantically. It was challenging … I don’t think it was as challenging as The Bachelorette because I think The Bachelorette was so tough because it’s like ‘Hey, your odds are significantly stacked against you,’ in terms of getting what you want out of it.”

Do we want Marquel to find love from this? Definitely, but what makes this whole experience so strange is that there’s also a part of us that wants to see him as “The Bachelor.” We almost feel bad for saying that, though, given that rooting for him to be that also is like rooting for him to not do well on this show.
