‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Michelle Dockery on future for Mary, Edith
Is there about to be some serious tension at “Downton Abbey” moving into the next season of the show? It certainly is starting to look that way, at least based on some of the scoop that we have now.
One of the biggest issues that could be coming this September when the show starts on ITV is actually not something that we’d thought about before now: The huge secret that Lady Edith is keeping from her own sister. Speaking to the Independent, Michelle Dockery made it clear that there could be something that comes out of this eventually:
“Mary doesn’t know Edith has a daughter. So Edith certainly won’t get any sympathy from her unknowing sister.
“Mary’s mean to Edith especially in this season – me and Laura [Carmichael] love it when they’re mean to each other, it’s more fun to do.”
Some of the other scoop for Mary at least this season revolves around romance. We know that he will be choosing between Charles Blake and Lord Anthony Gillingham at some point before the season comes to a close, and that could guide everything else that happens in her life moving forward.
As for Edith, what we really want to see right now is this: Giving her a chance to be happy for a little while. The woman had the rug completely pulled out from under her on season 4, so doesn’t she deserve something good coming her way? Maybe that can happen at some point after she finally reveals the truth about her kid. It feels like that is going to have to happen first.
