‘Arrow’ season 3: Stephen Amell happy to have own Justice League … on TV
We have to say, we’re pretty happy for Stephen Amell right now. The guy has been a part of an awesome thing in “Arrow” on The CW, and we imagine that it has to be quite a relief to no longer have to deal with incessant questions about whether or not he is going to be a part of the Justice League movie that is in production with DC Comics.
It was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend that the TV and film universes are definitely separate … even though we still do question why in the world the show is blocked from therefore using certain characters. With this announcement comes relief for Amell, and also potentially satisfaction with the league of characters that have been included into the TV universe. Just take a look at what he had to say to Comic Book Movie for more on that:
“The actual Justice League film — I don’t know when that’s coming out. You can watch The Justice League on television now. But the reason I’m happy to not have to answer the question anymore is because I think it undersold what we did on TV. I would put our degree of difficulty – having to produce twenty-two episodes of television every year, spinning off the show, giving people the confidence to green-light other DC properties — up there with producing a two hundred million dollar film. They’re very different things. I never want to feel as though our existence is only going to be justified by being part of the cinematic universe. That has nothing to do with anything. We are stamping out our own spot.”
We may be in the minority with this, but we’re still more invested in the show right now than any film, mostly because we’ve had so much more familiarity with these characters right now. For example, Oliver Queen is our hero, and there is not really anyone out there who is an adequate replacement for him. Superman may have the powers, but he doesn’t have the character development.
Are you on board with us here in being just as excited for the show as the movie … if not more so? Let us know with a comment, and you can also head over here if you want to get some other updates on all we cover via our newsletter.
