‘Chicago Fire’ season 3 spoilers: Exec further teases big premiere death

At this given point in time, there is almost no way of getting around the fact that the season premiere of “Chicago Fire” is going to depress us royally. How could it not when you know that there is a character that will be dead by the time we really get into the premiere this September?

The only clues that we really have for the time being are that this will tie back to the explosion that we saw during the season 2 finale, and given the talk about his relationship with Lindsay lasting, we have a pretty strong suspicion that Severide survives.

What executive producer Matt Olmstead will tell us for the time being is that whoever does end up passing during this episode will have a huge and profound impact on the life of Chief Boden. Just take a look at what he said to TV Guide:

“[He’s] at the pinnacle of being happy in his life — [he] just got married, a baby on the way — and then this tragedy happens … So, he’s trying to stay present in these great moments in his life while also dealing with the grief of other people, and himself in particular.”

We hate the fact that the show is killing off someone, but at the same time, we do admit to understanding the value of it. You want to give viewers that whole “no one is safe” mentality, and most of the time with scripted dramas, that mentality doesn’t exist on network TV. You contract people for six seasons, and thanks to that, you often assume that everyone will survive. That’s not the case here.

Which character right now are you the most worried about? Let us know with a comment.
