‘Masters of Sex’ season 2, episode 4 preview: Bill, Virginia, Libby, and breaking points

There are many things to look out for on “Masters of Sex” next week, but the biggest one is something that you likely saw coming near the end of last season: Bill’s secret life starting to seriously interfere with his public life.

It really has not been that much of a secret to anyone that there is something “unusual” (to say the least) with the relationship between William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Everyone sees this. The only thing that some out there are not seeing right now is the proof that they really need in order to figure this out for sure.

Now, someone has that proof, and it is all a measure of what they choose to do with it. Bill could finally decide to cut off the affair, find a different way to move forward with or without Virginia, and stay true to his wife Libby moving forward; or, he could go a very different route, stay with his mistress / partner in the study, and hope that nothing happens.

The obvious problem here, and with the show as a whole at times, is that it’s very hard to build tension for something when you know what is coming up on the other side. Everyone knows how the story for these two parties end, and we are of course going to have to rely on performances and emotional moments to get us through. Luckily, that is a little easier when you have people like Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan on your cast who are consistently killing it, night in and night out.
