‘Hell on Wheels’ season 4: A further look into the future
On August 2, “Hell on Wheels” season 4 is going to be premiering on AMC … but is it too early right now to start thinking about season 5? We don’t quite think so.
One of the biggest reasons that the extended, 13-episode renewal for season 4 excited us in the first place was because it was almost a proof-of-concept. It showed to some of the AMC executives that this format of airing new episodes on Saturday night can work, and the show can draw solid ratings both live and when the additional DVR data came in. It’s almost helped to make Saturdays a day all about Westerns for the network.
Granted, we cannot guarantee a season 5 right now, and we won’t feel 100% confident about the prospects until we see the ratings about halfway through the upcoming season. Still, tweets like the one coming in this week from showrunner John Wirth are still music to our ears (or we suppose in this case our eyes):
“So weird to be working out last couple stories for S4 as premiere is still 2 weeks away! Already thinking about S5! @HellOnWheelsAMC”
Clearly, production on season 4 is going nicely! You will not see the finale until a little bit later in the fall, and there is no intention for the show to stop there. While AMC waited for a while after season 4 was over to announce a renewal, they’re not opposed to do so earlier. Heck, they renewed “Better Call Saul” while the show was still early in production and there had yet to be a single episode on the air.
For now, we’ll just have to see what the future here holds, but you can head over to this link now to get some further updates related to “Hell on Wheels” and its cast. Also, click here for some more major TV updates via our newsletter.
