‘Chicago Fire’ season 3 spoilers: What’s next for Casey and Dawson?

Is it really possible for a couple to be happy all the time on a crime show? If we were a magic 8-ball, signs would point to “no.” There’s just something not interesting about seeing people whispering sweet nothings to each other most of the time, and conflict keeps that “will they or won’t they?” feeling going strong even when a couple is together.

For Casey and Dawson on “Chicago Fire,” the great news is that she is probably going to say “yes” to his proposal at some point in the early going this coming fall. Unfortunately, from here the problem begins to be what obstacles will get in the couple’s way. Executive producer Matt Olmstead touched on much of this in a chat with TVLine, and it sounds like occupational hazards could be a big fear that he has moving forward:

“[They are] happy and meant to be together…[However,] the complication going forward is she wants to be a firefighter … [He will have to ask] ‘Can I deal with this? Can I be in a relationship with someone I’m also worried about because I know the dangers of the job?’ That’s another monkey wrench thrown into their somewhat star-crossed relationship.”

The one part of this quote that’s somewhat interesting to us is the simple reminder here that it was Casey who proposed to Dawson in the first place knowing all of things. With this in mind, he better be prepared to handle most of the questions and issues that she has.
