‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: The mystery for Ian Somerhalder’s Damon

Do you want to see Damon’s storyline involving the “afterlife” on “The Vampire Diaries” season 6 to be resolved quickly? Well, you are probably going to consider this to be a case of good news and bad news.

We’ll start here with the good: You are going to find out specifically where Ian Somerhalder’s character and Bonnie (Kat Graham) are not too long into the sixth season of the mega-hit. As for where they are and now they get back to their friends, show executive producer Julie Plec suggests to TV Guide that this could be a little more frustrating:

“The answer of what happened is part of the season-long mythology, but the mystery of where they are is going to be asked very quickly and answered soon enough to not be frustrating.”

What may also be frustrating to some viewers is the sense that Elena (Nina Dobrev) and the rest of the cast have to move on, presuming that Damon simply did not make it back and he is lost from them forever. Can you blame them? As Plec says, Elena and Caroline (Candice Accola) are going to at least try to make a go at normalcy again while at college:

That’s the goal. The problem is they didn’t just lose their friends, they lost their town. They can’t go home again, so college in its own way should be this haven for them where the friends can be together but not everyone wants it to be that easy and not everyone is that willing and ready to settle in and say, ‘OK, let’s move on.’ So we’ll be wanting to see our friends find a way back to each other and move past the trouble they brought upon themselves and get back to their home. And in the meantime, it’s going to be what each of them is doing to make that happen.”

All of this could make for an interesting, exciting season; in the end, though, it’s really going to be all about timing as to whether or not the Damon part of it succeeds. You want him gone long enough to build mystery, but no so long as to make heads explodes.
