‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 5: Things get ominous in first poster

“Boardwalk Empire” season 5 is going to be premiering on HBO come September 7, but you don’t have to wait that long to at least check out the first bit of promotional material for it: The first poster!

If we were to grade the promo department for this one, we’d have to give it an A+++. Seriously. This is one of our favorite promotional posters of the year. The font of everything is perfect, the premiere date is prominent, but above everything else, the visual here is outstanding. The mere number of bullet casings coupled with the “no one goes quietly” line gives this show the perfectly-ominous feel that the producers were probably hoping for going into this season.

Also, it gives you the sort of feeling that the show probably wants that we could end up eventually seeing Nucky Thomspon dead by the time the end credits roll. Do we ultimately think that this is going to happen? We’re torn on it. It would be an almost appropriate end to his character, given the dark road he has traveled the past few years on the road to becoming a prominent gangster. However, it also feels like this may be almost too predictable at this point, given the end of “Breaking Bad” and also “The Sopranos,” if you choose to believe that the blackness at the end of the show signified the death of Tony.

What do you think about the “Boardwalk Empire” post right now, and are you stoked for the final season to come on the air? Let us know in the comments.
