‘Shameless’ season 5 spoilers: Dermot Mulroney signs on for lengthy arc

Love Showtime’s “Shameless”? Then you will be pleased to hear some of the latest casting news that we have now!

The show has just officially cast one of its first major additions for the upcoming fifth season, and it is someone with a very accomplished resume behind him already. Dermot Mulroney will take on the role of Sean Pierce, a recovering addict who also happens to be the new manager for Fiona (Emmy Rossum) at Patsy’s Pies. Could he be a potential love interest for her? Definitely don’t be surprised if this is something that comes up and is addressed over the course of the Showtime series’ run this time around.

The addition of Mulroney goes alongside the much-discussed return of Justin Chatwin after his prior departure to the show. Hopefully, he gives another spark to a show that has started to find it yet again. While you can protest all you want the movement to the comedy category for the Primetime Emmy Awards, this was a way to ensure that the show got a little bit more love. William H. Macy is now nominated for Actor in a Comedy Series, and that may get even more casual fans thinking about the show than they were previously.

At the moment, there has not been a premiere date announced for “Shameless” season 5, but we would personally expect it to be back on the air at some point early next year. This has been the pattern for every other season, so why change it up now?
