‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: When will Caity Lotz return as Sara?

Well, so much for the idea of the Canary staying away from “Arrow” for an extended period of time.

During the season 3 finale, we saw Sara Lance make the difficult decision to leave Starling City, mostly due to the trade-off that she made with the League of Assassins. We assumed that they wouldn’t be letting her take too many trips now back to the city where she defected, but TV Guide now reports that Caity Lotz will be reprising her role in the season 3 premiere.

How do we feel about this? We’re not sure. We’ve never admitted to being the biggest Sara supporter, but more than that we would want her departure to mean something. If she just comes right back after making a deal with the League, that makes the League look a little bit flimsy rather than a group with any sort of authority. Then again, this is all assuming that we are seeing Sara in present-day Starling. It’s definitely possible that she turns up in some way in Hong Kong during flashbacks, and then turns up again in the present a few episodes down the road. This is a tool that the show utilized a few times during the second season, and it could be effective here.

It will be interesting to see what sort of role that Sara ends up playing now, in particular thanks to the fact that she figuratively handed over her jacket to Laurel at the end of last season. Is she a trainer for a new Canary, or something else entirely? October 8 will be the day we finally have some answers.
