‘The Originals’ season 2: New books to be released to accompany show
While “The Vampire Diaries” was born out of a book series before it ended up airing on The CW, its spin-off show “The Originals” is now officially going in reverse.
Harlequin, per a report from Mediabistro, is going to be partnering with Josh Bank and Hayley Wagreich at Alloy Entertainment in order to write a series of new stories based off of the hit CW shows. These will be independent of the events on the show, but will be set largely in the same world and focus primarily on the famous family that includes Klaus, Elijah, and of course many more. While these stories will not be ready for release at the time that season 2 premieres in October, their release in February 2015, April 2015 and June 2015 will help to coincide with the new season of the show coming to a close.
Should this be exciting news for longtime fans of “The Originals” already? Sure, and it further proves the brand as a success that someone would be willing to put in the money and the time to produce additional works to go along with it. This is hardly the first time that we have seen books inspired by a show, with the most-prominent ones being the series of Richard Castle novels published by ABC to go along with new episodes of “Castle.” Given that he is an author on the show, the tie-in here is very easy.
