‘Rising Star’ episode 4 preview: Jesse Kinch, Sarah Darling, and how duels work
Since the entire first season of “Rising Star” needs to come with some sort of instruction manual for how most of the parts of it work, we thought that we would do you a favor right now in trying to at least explain the Duels portion that is starting up on Sunday night.
Here is the basic premise of it. You are once again going to need to have the app on your device, and you will still be voting. Two of the contestants that you voted for to advance through the first round will be facing off again, and then you will vote on who you like using the same mechanism. The two contestants are not performing at the same time like they are on “The Voice,” so that part of it will not be a mess.
In the end, the person with the highest percentage of votes goes through to the next round. This all makes some sense, but the part of this that could complicate the show is that theoretically, voters on the East Coast are not going to be getting the full story. Since there’s no particular threshold that you have to reach this time around, the West Coast is going to have way more power than they did originally, and could push many singers over the top. Therefore, you’d have to actually follow along after the fact to know for sure which one of your favorites goes through.
We are assuming that the judges are going to continue to have some sort of power moving forward, if for no other reason than that there is no other reason for them to be there. Brad Paisley’s cowboy hat would just be taking up space.
Here are the confirmed duels to be taking place on Sunday:
- Lisa Punch vs. Alice J. Lee
- Megan Tibbits vs. Sarah Darling
- Will Roth vs. Jesse Kinch
Right now, we’d pick Alice, Sarah, and Jesse to advance, but let’s see how the actual show goes on Sunday.
