‘Fargo’ season 2: Would Billy Bob Thornton be open to another role?
We really should start this “Fargo” up with an obvious spoiler alert, mostly because it contains details from the first season. Then again, why are you reading this article if you haven’t finished season 1?
Anyway, we are well aware of the fact that it is insane to think that Billy Bob Thornton could be in the second season of the show (which is close to being confirmed) as Lorne Malvo, mostly because that character is dead thanks to Gus Grimly. Unless the next sequel is a prequel (unlikely), there is no other way around it.
Would Billy Bob Thornton be up for a different role on the show, though? While executive producer Noah Hawley has not discussed going an “American Horror Story” route using same actors in different roles, it is something to ponder. He explains to Entertainment Weekly that while he knows little about season 2 right now, he is not necessarily opposed to anything:
“I don’t know. As far as I know they only signed me up to do the 10 episodes, so I don’t really know. I haven’t been told anything. But I do need a job, I don’t have one. So if you hear of anything, I’m open now.”
We are curious to see what Thornton does regardless. We feel like “Fargo” will end up getting a cast of almost entirely new characters with maybe a cameo or two, but somebody has to pick him up, right? This was one of his best roles in a long time, and it was a nice reminder of how amazing he can be with great material and a character that really plays to his strengths, which include tackling these sort of enigmatic people.
