‘Extant’ episode 2 preview, ratings talk, and more
Did you watch CBS’ ambitious new show “Extant” Wednesday night? At the moment, let’s just say that the results are fairly mixed.
The good news for the show is that it wasn’t a complete bomb in the ratings, which would have been very embarrassing both for Halle Berry and the network itself. The bad news? A 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic is far below what the “Under the Dome” premiere got last summer, and it didn’t even beat “Big Brother” (1.9) on the night. Given that shows tend to lose between 10-20% of their viewership from the premiere to the second episode (unless they deliver an awesome pilot like “The Blacklist”), this shows that this series could actually be in trouble for the network sooner rather than later. We don’t want to see that happen, though, mostly because we like the idea of networks taking risks and trying to find big hits in the summer. It sure beats repeats of scripted stuff from the season lasting all summer long.
For those of you who did see / enjoy the premiere episode last night, we’ve got a separate treat now for you below: The extended preview for all of the episodes ahead. If you thought the pilot was a little weird, be very much aware that things are going to get so much crazier in the near future, long before they start to make sense completely. From what we understand “Extant” seems to be one of these shows that will try to answer a mystery with even more mysteries before starting to make a little sense at the end.

It was ok. Had a hard time paying attention. Guess you could say it was kinda boring.
