‘The X Factor’ alum Fifth Harmony unveil new single ‘Bo$$’

Fifth Harmony -Everyone loves putting dollar signs in the title of things, right? Apparently, Fifth Harmony clearly does judging from their new single “Bo$$,” and you can listen to the entire song right now.

The biggest thing that we are struck by upon listening to the song is that it’s definitely catchy, and its chances of being a hit are probably higher than almost anything that has come from a former “X Factor” US contestant so far. There’s a clear hook, an lyrics that are definitely easy to remember. All of this has the makings of having an impact on pop radio.

What is going to be interesting to watch over the coming weeks is going to be seeing what some of the general response from longtime fans of the group is. It’s definitely a departure from anything that they have ever done to date, and it could practically be a new group singing it based on the genre and the subject matter. Just go back and compare this to “Me and My Girls” or “Miss Movin’ On,” which do have at least some of the same themes of female empowerment. The comparisons here to the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child, or more recently Little Mix are going to be obvious, especially since the latter group made a similar image transition from their first album to the second.

To us, probably the most interesting part of the song is its heavy reliance on Michelle Obama in the lyrics. Since political figures are always so polarizing (even First Ladies), putting one into your hook is always going to be a risky move.
