‘Halt and Catch Fire’ episode 6 preview: The sound of victory

Let us face it: There have not been too many winning moments for Joe MacMillan on “Halt and Catch Fire” so far. The vast majority of the time, we have instead witnessed Lee Pace’s character struggle through one thing or another, whether we are talking about something like trying to get the code together, convincing a team that his specifications were possible, and then getting the right partners on board.

Somehow, he managed to figure it all out, and the sneak peek below for Sunday’s new episode is all about that victory. However, this success also comes uncertainty, especially for us as a viewer of the series.

The issue that we see this show struggling with now is something that “Mad Men” also had to balance and work on. This show is grounded in a real era of history, and you clearly do not want to make it such that they are suddenly so famous and successful that it changes the course of everything else. Due to that, is it really possible that you can turn Joe into a computer magnate or have Cardiff be enormously successful? It only works if you are basically creating some sort of Franken-history and combining a number of other real-life events and throwing them into this story.

The one thing that we can ultimately say here overall is that this show has far and away improved based on when we last saw it, and that has made it very easy for us to have a smile on our face while watching.
