‘The Amazing Race’ updates: ‘Canada’ returning; ‘Australia vs. New Zealand’ video

This is going to be a very good year for “The Amazing Race” franchise, and we feel pretty comfortable saying that even in spite of the fact that the American show has been moved to Friday nights for the fall.

Let’s start here with just a simple reminder that the Canadian version of the show is returning on Tuesday! “The Amazing Race Canada” did a great job in its first season of creating memorable characters, and they made a beautiful course despite never actually leaving Canada itself. Based on what we’re hearing, the new season is going to be more taxing and difficult for the teams than ever before.

Since we’re going to have reviews of the Canadian show for quite a while moving forward, we want to turn for a second now to “The Amazing Race: Australia vs. New Zealand.” We have been interested in this series for practically forever, and it feels like this season has been floating around since the beginning of time. There is still no confirmed start date, but we like the idea of teams from two different countries squaring off for national pride and so much more. “The Amazing Race Australia” season 2 was actually one of our favorite seasons of any version of the show, in between the Salvage Pass twist, a “Survivor”-like voting style for a U-Turn, and some great destinations and characters. Let’s hope that whenever this comes out that it does not disappoint.

To us, the one thing that the series should never lose track of is that this is about exploration and discovering new things first and foremost. We don’t want to ever see the show lose the sense of wonderment it gets upon traveling to places we may not be that familiar with.
