‘Arrow’ season 3 spoilers: Colton Haynes on the great Sara Lance mystery

With Sara Lance handing her symbolic jacket off to Laurel during the “Arrow” season 2 finale, the show effectively did everything that it needed to in order to close the book on the character. This is why we were almost surprised that she didn’t die in the episode. What role will she have now? Seemingly, she will go back to the League of Assassins, and if she ever returns to Starling City it will be in full-on “killer mode.” After all, this is what she believes herself to be more so than anything else.

Luckily for Caity Lotz, there are some who believe that we will see Sara again at some point. Colton Haynes is one of them. Speaking to TVLine recently, he explained his quick thoughts about her future (even though he is most likely not privy to everything that is discussed behind the scenes):

“I think we’ll definitely see Sara back. I’m not sure how soon, but obviously, when she does, we might see different facets of her.”

Personally, we feel like it is going to be a matter of many months before we see Sara return. You want to give Laurel time to figure out just what she is going to do with that jacket, and also if that includes sporting a mask and kicking butt as the Black Canary. This is what many suspected before the series even began given the comic books, and while there are many changes that have been made since the beginning (Olicity being a notable one), we cannot see the writers drifting too far from this idea for Katie Cassidy.

Maybe we’ll see Sara pop up late in the season, but no matter what the reason for her return is, we’ll only be truly happy if it comes as a surprise.
