‘America’s Got Talent’ review: Meet Frank Dimitri, Emil and Dariel, Rock Hard Revue

First of all, we have to say that NBC did a really cruel thing in airing this “America’s Got Talent” episode against the premiere of “Rising Star.” That latter show should be allowed to fail on its own merits, because it’s pretty terrible. Don’t hurt your own fanbase by throwing your show around on the schedule.

We imagine that there will be smaller ratings for Sunday’s episode of the show because of the move, and it is a shame because there was some good talent in here. Here are some of the highlights from this show; we’ll have some more a little bit later, so be on the lookout for that.

Mara Justine – A very good singer given her age (11). Still, we’ve seen so many young singers on this show flame out that we almost wish that she had been given some more time before auditioning, that way she could be more ready.

Mike Super – Who are you going to call? We guess this guy is a magician, though his sidekick is apparently a ghost named Desmond. This brings new meaning to “I’ll see you in another life, brother,” now doesn’t it?

Emil and Dariel – Their alternate name is “2CELLOS Junior,” and if you haven’t heard, 2CELLOS are one of the best string duos out there right now. These two are genuinely good.

Rock Hard Revue – It’s one part dance group, and also one part male burlesque. Basically, it’s the sort of thing that the ladies definitely seemed to be into the point of blushing. How in the world did they not get a golden buzzer? We were sure that these guys were going to advance.

Frank Dimitri – A nice story to close the night. He is a 74-year old who has a pretty good voice, and it’s not just a good voice for a guy his age. It’s genuinely good, and he may be a darkhorse in this competition the rest of the way.
