‘The Bachelorette’: Campaign wages for Marquel Martin to be next ‘Bachelor’

Marquel -It should not come as much of a surprise that there are some fans of “The Bachelorette” already looking forward to the next season of “The Bachelor,” and as a matter of fact, some are going so far as to begin the campaigning process for a few of the guys.

As for where this takes us, see all of the campaigns on Twitter where Marquel Martin is being requested as the next star of the show. He was just eliminated on Monday night, and left without there being nary a negative thing about him. Andi Dorfman seemed to like him, but it always seemed to be more in the “friend” capacity than “boyfriend” or “fiance.”

Obviously, the reasons the hire Marquel for the leading role are plentiful: He’s charming, funny, is aware of the cameras, knows the franchise well, wants love, and was very popular even without getting a one-on-one date. Maybe in some seasons, this would be enough to get him the gig.

This is where we start to feel for Marquel a little bit. Race shouldn’t be a part of the conversation for a dating-based reality show this many seasons in, but it is. You have the headlines about ABC never having a black Bachelor, and you even had Marquel on the show addressing his fear of being known strictly for being known for his race and his race only while surrounded by suitors who are predominantly white. The craziest thing that we’ve heard are people who suggest that ABC won’t go back to another minority Bachelor because Juan Pablo Galavis was terrible. Here’s our response: Juan Pablo was terrible because he was disrespectful and could care less about the franchise. It had nothing to do with the fact he was a minority.

As of right now, we’d hire Marquel as the next Bachelor, but you also have to remember there are many episodes to go and ABC already has the knowledge of what happens completely. They may feel that someone else has a more complete story arc that can translate better into the next season of the flagship show. We’ll just have to wait and see on that one, since right now it’s going to be hard for anyone else to match the pure popularity of Marquel. (Then again, we also thought at this point in Sean Lowe’s season that Sarah Herron should be the next Bachelorette, hands-down.)

What do you think about the Marquel campaign, and would you be happy if his next TV appearance was “Bachelor in Paradise” instead of “The Bachelor”? Let us know below, and click here to get some further TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
