‘Teen Wolf’ season 4 spoilers: Jeff Davis teases big story for Holland Roden’s Lydia

Earlier this year, we had what was in some ways the season of Stiles on “Teen Wolf.” Could this summer by the summer of Lydia? While it may be somewhat of a stretch to go that far with it right now, it certainly looks for the time being like Holland Roden is going to have plenty to do in the episodes coming up.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, show executive producer Jeff Davis made it clear that the story for Lydia is going to be fascinating, as you start to look at some of the stereotypes for what banshees are in the history of myths, and how she can work to try and defy them over time:

“Lydia’s a very important character this season, and we actually learn a lot about her history, and her family. Her banshee abilities are crucial to this season. You’ll see her sort of mastering them now as she learns how to trigger them. It’s an interesting thing to see play out on screen, because it’s something I’ve never seen. Banshees, in folklore and whatnot, usually aren’t helpful at all. They’re the wailing women, almost villainous. So it’s great to see her becoming a hero in her own right. And she’s such a great actress; we can give her anything to play. She does comedy, drama and romance equally well — but the one spoiler I can give for her is that we pull back quite a bit on romance for her. As she’s exploring her abilities and dealing with the death of her best friend, romance takes a back seat.”

We’re fairly happy with this, mostly because we feel like romance takes too high a priority for many of these characters much of the time, almost as if it is the only interesting thing going on in their lives. We want to see more of an investigation into the sort of hero that Lydia is, and this may be the perfect chance to do just that.
