‘Last Comic Standing’: A look at this ‘Comic Comeback’ feature
Like many other aspects of this season of “Last Comic Standing,” it feels like NBC came up with a pretty cool idea for this whole “Comic Comeback” feature that they have going on right now. Unfortunately, there’s just something off with the execution of this to keep it from being that effective or interesting to viewers.
The biggest issue here is stakes. If there is going to be some live performance shows later this season (which really isn’t that clear), why not let the winner of this make it onto one of them? Having the winning comic perform in the finale really is not that much of an incentive to get people to check out your website. If you’re going to have a feature like this, you may as well have it be all-out like it is with “Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen.”
Also, the rules for this are far more complicated that they really should be. Here’s how it goes.
- The two comics who you are allowed to vote for this week on the website are Nick Guerra and Alingon Mitra, who seem to be arbitrarily voted on by the audience at the semifinal tapings to in turn be voted on by America. We like both of these comics, so we’re not that upset by that. However, why not leave this open this week to everyone who was eliminated and let us judge?
- Voting is done only by Twitter, which seems weird because not everyone wants to let the world know who they voted for in something.
- The winner this week will be going up against “a comic eliminated in the following week’s episode.” What if there are more than one comic sent home? Is that arbitrary again? We had to look this up in the official rules, since we’d otherwise have no clue.
Anyway, that’s how this goes. We went ahead put the videos of Alingon and Nick from the site below, just in case you don’t want to vote but still want to laugh. It seems like the comics were just told to submit something from their reel, since these are from seemingly different clubs.
