‘Last Comic Standing’ review: Did Nikki Carr, Lachlan Patterson, Rod Man advance?

Last Comic Standing -Last Comic Standing” wrapped up its semifinal round on Thursday with 14 more comedians hitting the stage, and simultaneously making us wish again that this show was two hours. In order for us to fully understand the judges’ decisions, wouldn’t it be better if we actually saw full sets rather than just for the ones who are most likely to stand out?

So where in the world did Amy Schumer go this week? Was she so completely bored with this that she took off in the middle? As always, we’re going to rank these performers from worse to first on the night.

14. Jasper Redd –  This penny-is-like-a-black-person bit worked at first, but then he drew it out so long that it went from being very funny to being very annoying.

13. Gerald Kelly – Not a fan of this whole “I’m too young to get married” bit. The concept of it just wasn’t funny, and then he stook with it.

12. Tyree Elaine – We don’t even remember her from the first round of the competition. Seriously.

11. Dana Eagle – A good joke about kids in here, but it’s not exactly the most original concept to be brought up in the world. To be fair, though, the edit jostled this around in a terrible way, like we were coming in to the set midway.

10. Dave Landau – Roseanne not getting the mouse joke reminded us of when she didn’t get Jeff Ross’ “Star Wars” joke during her roast. Not really his fault.

9. Erin Jackson – Solid, but relatively unremarkable. The last thing that you ever want to be is in the middle of the pack.

8. Zeinab Johnson – A good job by Wanda by steering her away from that rape joke. Not only was it in poor taste, but it’s not even original. She’s just a little too raw for this competition in our eyes, which you would expect for a comic in her fourth year.

7. Rocky LaPorte – We actually felt like the judges were a little hard Rocky. His delivery is probably a little slow for this sort of show, but we would wonder the same thing about some others who are currently touring and making millions.

6. Alingon Mitra – We didn’t see the full set from Alingon, but the jokes that he did bring to the table here were really funny, especially the “America’s Most Wanted” bit.

5. DC Benny – He is a very unusual comedian, mostly in that you could listen to his entire set in the podcast without anything changes. Maybe that is a critique of his performance in a way, but we enjoyed it regardless.

4. Emily Galati – This was all about the delivery. Her joke about the stolen bike wasn’t that funny when it comes to the writing, but she was so delightfully awkward.

3. Rod Man – Rod Man is just weird. He’s very funny despite being so weird that we can barely follow him most of the time.

2. Lachlan Patterson – We could see some labeling this as misogynistic, but we found him very funny regardless with his whole video games bit.

1. Nikki Carr – We really like Nikki’s delivery, but we do wonder what would happen if she was to suddenly lose a lot of weight. After all, a ton of material seems to be dependent on food.

Advanced – Lachlan Patterson, Rocky LaPorte, DC Benny, Nikki Carr, and Rod Man. Overall, better choices tonight. We’re a little surprised by Rocky, but happy that he is moving forward.
