ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: No jump past Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion’s next move
Given everything that happened on the “Castle” season 6 finale, is it fair to ask the show to stay put and not jump ahead? It has become a common TV trope for most network series to not push ahead to wash away what happened beforehand, and to set the stage for new stories with a little bit of distance.
Luckily, the show is not doing that, and will give you the immediate aftereffects of Richard Castle being captured rather than move ahead, and then show you what happened in flashbacks or something else. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic are going to be thrust directly back into this situation, as series boss Andrew W. Marlowe said in a new interview with TVLine:
“We feel like, given the way we left off, we have an obligation to start exactly where we ended … So we’ll be picking up in real time.”
This certainly makes the premiere potentially all the more exciting, with one of the questions being if and when Rick is rescued, will he and Beckett still have the wedding that they were hoping for … or a wedding at all? We assume that at least Castle will survive, largely because there isn’t a whole lot of a show without the title character.
Obviously, another big benefit to diving into this story that we haven’t quite mentioned yet is that it allows for an opportunity to know who these mystery captors are, what they want, and how they will impact the show moving forward. Maybe it’s a single person, or maybe there is some elaborate organization out to destroy a popular mystery writer. Crazy, but we’ve seen crazier come out of Rick’s mouth.
What do you think about starting off immediately where we left off, and do you think that there is any way that the show can make this worth the wait? Share below, and to get all of our “Castle” coverage, head over here. Also, sign up now for some further TV updates per our CarterMatt Newsletter.

I agree that there is no other place to start season 7, the situation that finished season 6 is reminiscent of the end of season 5. and the proposal it needs to be finished, I just hope that the wedding, assuming there is to be one, is not delayed too long, it needs to happen fairly quickly, I.e. within first 2 or 3 episodes, to allow Caskett to start their married lives, I hope that the writers are not tempted to get Beckett pregnant this next series.

I want the show to pick up right where it left off, and for Kate to at least know immediately that Rick lived. She’s been through too much to suffer that anguish any further than necessary. I’d love the wedding to occur in the season premiere, assuming Rick is okay. After all, if they pick right up in real time from the original day, won’t they still have everything setup for the wedding? Maybe at the end of the episode?
